On December 22, a drugstore in Harlem, New York, was robbed. During the robbery, the owner of the drugstore, Alguinaldo Nesbitt, was brutally murdered. Steve Harmon, a 16-year-old African American high school student, is now on trial for being an accomplice for the incident. Steve records his experiences in jail in diary form and the court trial as a film, hoping to come to terms with his identity as an American citizen.

Cameron Crowe went undercover as a journalist at a California high school, where the students gave him their opinion on their favorite subjects: sex, drugs, and rock music. First there's Brad Hamilton, the big man on campus who appears to have everything made. His 15 year old sister Stacy, an innocent high school freshman, gets plenty of bad advice from the sexually outspoken senior Linda on how to lose her virginity.
